The McDermid Auto Collective began in 1990 when Craig and Kathie McDermid moved their young family from Christchurch, where they owned a Shell service station, to Marlborough - becoming co-owners of Blenheim Toyota.

Shortly thereafter the McDermids bought the franchise becoming full owners and began expanding into the South island, acquiring South Canterbury Toyota in Timaru in 2008 and Rangiora, Kaiapoi and Ashburton dealerships in 2015. The Auto Collective now offers full Toyota representation across Marlborough, Rangiora, Ashburton, North, Mid and South Canterbury.

In 2015 Kathie and Craig’s son, Scott and his wife Anna joined the business. Scotty has worked on and off through most departments within the family business and his focus for the company is on providing exceptional and personalised service to our customers.

2017 saw the McDermid Auto Collective become South Canterbury agents for Subaru Parts and Service and more recently in 2020, Holden Parts and Service. We are able to offer our customers additional motor related services through our tyre centre in Timaru and a Collision Repair & Refinishing workshop in Blenheim.
