Covid-19 pandemic causes further delays on parts and components
In early September, Toyota Motor Corporation announced that there will be further global production adjustments due to componentry parts supply shortages caused by Covid-19 disruptions and ongoing microchip shortages.
They advised that disruptions caused by the Covid pandemic were hitting global supply chains and that with the Delta variant, many countries had seen a surge in cases, resulting in factories having to be completely shut down for lengthy periods of times. For Toyota, this has disrupted the supply of essential componentry that is integral to our vehicle manufacturing processes.
Unfortunately, these disruptions are beyond Toyota’s control and whilst they are doing everything in their power to minimise impact, there is unfortunately a run-on effect which impacts our customers and their new vehicles delivery wait times across most model Toyotas.
Currently the average delivery time is 7-8 months, with some more popular models taking longer due to global demands, border closures and delays in shipping and logistics.
New cars require time to be built, shipped from the factory and to clear customs in New Zealand. They then also undergo extensive checking, detailing and installation of accessories and specialised software.
If an order is very specific with a particular colour, grade and multiple accessories or extras, it may take a little longer to get ready, as these orders are mostly coming from overseas.
We understand that unforeseen events, situations, choices and requirement changes might mean that you now need your car urgently, or your needs are now slightly different. Our sales team are happy to discuss changes to colour, model and accessories which may mean that you order can be processed sooner. If you do have any concerns, please let them know.
At all times
we will do our best to provide all our customers with open, honest communication around expected timeframes and you will hear from our sales team with regular updates, even if it is just to advise you that the expected delivery time remains the same.
